Tips & Tricks

Installing the "Doctopus" add-on for the first time (you only have to do this ONCE):
  1. Create a new Google Spreadsheet
  2. Click on the "Add-Ons" menu in the spreadsheet menu bar
  3. Click "get add-ons"
  4. Search for "Doctopus" and follow prompts to install

How to write comments on a Google Doc

  1. Select/highlight the area you wish to comment on
  2. Hold down "command-option-m"
  3. Leave a comment in the box!  Students can reply if they have a question or they can click "resolved" after they fix the error

Importing your class email rosters into Doctopus

  1. Log in to the "Staff Shared" server and navigate to "District Shared" then "Google Class Email Lists"
  2. Open the file for the class you are working with using either Microsoft Excel or Apple Numbers
  3. Select and copy your student data
  4. Paste the data into your Google spreadsheet when prompted by Doctopus

There are 4 different ways to share documents with your classes:
  1. Individually:  Each student gets their own copy of the assignment
  2. Groups:  Small groups of students (designated by you) get one copy of the assignment that they can all edit
  3. Differentiated:  Share different versions of an assignment with specific students
  4. Whole Class:  One document is shared with everyone - everyone can edit the document
As always, feel free to drop me a line if you have questions or would like help!
